While talking with a friend the other day, she had mentioned that BJ’s was reported on the news to not join with other stores in banning pink slime. Today I went to the BJ’s fan page and found this response regarding the issue:
“We have made the decision to eliminate ground beef products that contain boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT), often called “pink slime.” Beginning April 7, BJ’s will only offer fresh ground beef that is BLBT free. BLBT-free frozen ground beef will be available by April 20.
To others asking: All ground beef ground in-club and packaged on site does NOT contain any BLBT. BJ’s will continue to offer fresh all-natural NatureSource ground beef and frozen Earth’s Pride ground beef which are and have always been BLBT free. Also, since BLBT is not an ingredient – it is identified by the USDA as pure lean beef – you will not see it called out on the packaging. The Fresh 93% lean, 90% lean and 85/15 fresh patties, along with the Frozen Cedar Cannon and Berkley & Jensen labels at BJ’s may contain up to 10% BLBT.”
This is good news! I hope their response helps you on your next shopping trip.
