If you haven’t yet had the chance to try pineberries, they’re now available at select BJ’s Wholesale clubs. These unique berries are a cross between a pineapple and a strawberry, and they have a deliciously sweet and mild flavor.
They have a sweet and light pineapple taste.
We were able to snag some of these pineberries during our last shopping trip to BJ’s, and we have to say, we weren’t that impressed!
The Cost of Pineberries
I grabbed a Pink a Boo Pineberries pack from our local BJ’s Wholesale Club in Rochester, NY, for $4.99. A 2 lb. pack of red strawberries is currently $4.99 at our local BJ’s.
These are not the cheapest strawberries, but I saw these berries on social media in Costco stores, so I wanted to give my BJ’s readers a heads up about them.
I had my oldest daughter try these with us for the first time.
It was strange to eat a white strawberry when you are taught to pick the darkest reddest berry from the patch, but we went forward.
What Exactly is a Pineberry?
Pineberries are strawberries that have hints of pineapple, pear, and apricot. These berries are white or pale pink, and they have tiny red seeds on the outside.
According to Pineberries.org, they have a refreshing taste with a hint of tropical flavor, and their blush hues make them all-around unique.
We were both surprised at how ripe they were. This pack of Pineberries was riper than the pack of regular strawberries I purchased at BJs.
For me, it was okay, and my daughter said the same. However, the flavor didn’t wow her. There was a very faint taste of pineapple, which was unique. However, the flavor wasn’t enough for me to spend $5 on a pack of these- especially with the strawberry season right around the corner.
If they were $4.99 for a two lb. pack, I’d grab them again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to make sure I had them.
After reading about Pineberries, Pineberries are a better option with slightly less acidity for those who need less acidity in fruits.
It’s defiantly a fun thing to try, but if you are on a tight budget, you may want to opt for red strawberries.
I found it interesting that these Pineberries from Peek Boo farms are NON-GMO.
From their website, they said this about the NON-GMO berries,
“Although it has subtle flavors of pineapple, pear and apricot, this is only meant to describe what the berry tastes like, similar to the way you would describe the tasting notes in a wine. Pineberries were developed through natural breeding techniques at the University of Florida. For more information about GMOs, please visit: www.gmoanswers.com.”
If you’re looking for something new to try, be sure to check out the pineberry at your local BJs wholesale club.
These unique berries are a fun addition to any fruit bowl, and they’re perfect for snacking on the go. And if you want to know more about how these delicious berries are grown, be sure to visit this website.
They have all the information you need about pineberries, and they can even help you find a store near you that sells them. Thanks for reading, and happy snacking!
