It is painful to type that summer will be coming to an end before you know it. Here in New York, we treasure every minute of sun we have to remind us there is indeed the sun in the long winter months!
Here are 4 quick tips for a healthier back to school season that you need to be reminded of.
I would love to hear any other tips you want to share with us in the comments below.
Get in Enough Physical Activity
It is amazing to watch kids just go and go and go. They need to have at least one hour of physical activity every day. It is important to remember this and let them get their energy out physically especially after a long day of school.
Wash Hands When they Get Home
Oh, the school germs! If you can get into the habit of the kiddos coming home and washing their hands right away it can make a big difference. I know my kids want to eat as soon as they get home so they are in a better habit of knowing to wash their hands before they eat- usually 🙂 I also keep a diffuser running in their room with essential oils.
Set an Earlier Bedtime
It is really important to have the kids go to bed earlier when they start back to school. I like to start the girls on an earlier bedtime a week or two before school starts and have them go up 15 minutes earlier each day until we get to our back to school bedtime which is 7 pm.
It still takes us a good half hour to 45 minutes to get them to bed. Don't let the meltdowns and kids being overtired cause them to stay up later and give everyone a run for their money the next morning getting ready for school.
Just Love
I love the summer time because things are just carefree. I love our routine. When the kids go back to school the days are so short here by the time they get off the bus we eat and it's almost bedtime. In those busy days, the most important thing we can do to keep our kids healthy and happy is to just love them. Try to take time every day to just give them a smooch and tell them how much you love them.
Give them a high five and say how proud you are. My kids light up each time their hear this from their mom or dad. You would think you would do this everyday but as they grow and things get busier often times you have to remind yourself to just love on them. To just love them instead of demand more from them. They are precious treasures we only have for a short while.
