Thank you to a BJ's employee in our FB group for letting us know the Blumen Hand Sanitizer sold at BJ's Wholesale club stores is being recalled.
If 2020 wasn't much of a year already, the hand sanitizer we previous couldn't function without is now dangerous.

You won't find this hand sanitizer online any more either. Thousands of bottles are being recalled. It is due to sanitizers containing toxic wood alcohol. You can read more about it here.
You can read the recall from the FDA here.
From I have found Costco sells this brand too and has issued a recall on it here.
UPDATE 8/7: ALL BLUMEN Hand sanitizers sold at BJs are now being recalled. To get your refund visit the Blumen site here.
UPDATE: Here is the release from BJs on 7/15.
Below is the letter BJs has sent out to members as well. You can dispose of the hand sanitizer to a nearest recycling center.
4E Brands is voluntarily recalling select lots of Blumen Hand Sanitizer, 17 oz., due to possible contamination with methyl alcohol. Out of an abundance of caution, 4E Brands requests that members discontinue the use of this product immediately and dispose of it in accordance with local regulations.
BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. only carried one item, BLUMEN Clear Advance Hand Sanitizer, 17 oz. (Article 248094; UPC: 814266024096), affected by the recall.
Please visit https://www.blumensanitizerrecall.expertinquiry.com/ and enter your product’s UPC and the lot number to check if your product is included in this recall and, if so, to request a refund. You can find these numbers printed on the bottle (see below photo for location of the lot number). 4E Brands anticipates that it will take four to six weeks for members to receive their refund once they have submitted their request. Please do not return this product to your local BJ’s Wholesale Club.
Here you will find the press release issued by 4E Brands providing the details of this recall.
Consumers who have purchased the Blumen Hand Sanitizer within the scope of this recall and who have questions not answered on the website above are advised to contact 4E Brands at 1 (888) 843-0254 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET or by email at [email protected] with any questions. Again, please do not return the product to BJ’s.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
I personally have this one in my car right now. It's opened and BJs will take it back open or not. So bring in those Blumen hand sanitizers to your local BJs for a refund. be sure to call first many have messaged me saying their club has accepted them and given a full refund while others are not until the letter is sent in the mail.
Here is the other brand of sanitizer we have seen at BJs this year. I have not heard if this one is being recalled. I will update the post as soon as I find out.
Looks like it's just good ol hand washing again 🙂
While you're returning your hand sanitizer check out the GOOD deals that are going on at BJs here.

Ok so I am a little late dealing with this but I have 2 bottles of this recalled sanitizer and the website noted says to return it to BJ’s for a refund and BJ’s website & letter says to get a refund from the manufacturer. This screams scam and irresponsibility.
Tasia
You need to visit the link in the article above to get the refund, hopefully they are still refunding at this point.
Elisa Cellini
I applied for rhe refund/ recall for the two bottles i purchased bur as of yet i havent heard anything or recieved anything
Barbara Host

Purchased 1 bottle of hand sanitizer. Tried to bring it back to BJs They wouldn’t take it. Kind of silly, don’t you think?
Tasia
Yep I think it’s super silly. But you have to go through the link on the Blumen site to get the refund.

I purchased 10 bottles and went to the website to get a refund. after I entered the required information, they are giving me credit for one bottle, payable after they do all their paperwork, in 6 to 8 weeks. Why does BJ’s ask us not to return them to the store?
I suppose I should try to return them, but my wife, a nurse, is afraid to go anywhere in public for the time being,
Tasia
Thats strange. I have no idea why BJs isn’t. The thing is some BJs clubs are accepting and giving a refund. Members and employees have shared that tip in our FB group.

I have one blumen hand sanitizer that I would like compensated for; the 17 fl oz/503 ml. Thanks

Just a comment on the “other” BeSafe brand sanitizer available at BJ’s. It stinks like stale cheap tequila. I had to wash it off my hands after using it because the smell made me gag. Don’t buy it.
Tasia
Did you see the amazing freebie for Suave sanitizer you can score at BJs? https://www.mybjswholesale.com/coupons/bjs-free-sanitizer/
Brian Hawes
I am returning this to BJ’s and demanding a refund. I will speak to the manager and make a scene if necessary (nothing too dramatic, but I’ll get my point across). Blumen didn’t sell this to me, BJ’s did. Take responsibility for what you sell…
Diane
What is the proper way to dispose of the sanitizer safely?
Tasia
throw in the trash at this point.
Sharon Brightman
I checked the appropriate numbers and the two I purchased do not match. Supposedly that means the two I have are okay to use, HOWEVER, the FDA recommends not using any products from this company. Seems made in Mexico is like purchasing from China. I won’t be using this product regardless. The letter says not to return the BJs but some branches are taking them back. Why the confusion? Corporate should have put forth a directive that would apply to all branches. I am glad to have received the letter and subsequent phone message. I do not feel confident in this company/product and will not use it.

I tried to bring my 3 bottles back to the Portland Maine store and was told that I had to go through the manufacture and was given a piece of paper with a website for Bluman which doesn’t work, it’s a dead site. The paper also says the manufacture will confirm the lot number and send a refund, but we would have to dispose of the product. What’s the best, safest, way to dispose of this stuff? Dump it down the sink or on the ground, I’m sure some will, doesn’t seem to me like either Bluman or BJ’s really cares that much about where the likely thousands of bottles of this toxic stuff ends up in the environment. I did finally find the recall lot number list on another site and the lot numbers for the products I purchased are on the list. Very disappointed in the way BJ’s is handling this; my family like many literally spend thousands of dollars a year at their store, no way to treat loyal long time customers; maybe time to consider switching to Sam’s Club.
Tasia
This is such a bummer. I have NO idea why they are so inconsistent with this recall. In our Facebook group many BJs managers have said their store is taking the bottles back and giving a full refund. I’m not sure why there is such an issue with this. Costco does have exceptional customer service.
Dee
Mine wouldn’t take it let me take a photo of the blumen site to contact. Makes me rethink my membership
Anne
I agree with you !00%. I’m very discussed with BJ’s at this point! I like you spend a great deal of money in that store in Middletown, RI.
Anne
I bought 10 bottles for myself and other people in my family. I checked all the bottles on the Blumen site and received the same response on all my bottles “The lot # you entered is neither included in this recall nor valid. See example above. If you need additional information contact Recall Support at 1-888-843-0254. The lot numbers and UPC numbers are correct. “Nor valid” ????
Tasia
I would go to your local BJs and tell them you want a refund for the Blumen and they should give you a refund. That’s what alot of members in our Facebook group have done.
Yashira M Aguilar
Same happened to me. I have 6 bottles
Denise Sipes
I just threw mine out all 3 bottles…
Tasia
BJs has sent out an email this week saying you do NOT need to bring in the sanitizers to get the refund.
Alicia Tolar
I was in BJs this weekend. My store refused to return the hand sanitizer. I bought 8 over several weeks for my home, my husband’s work, my parents home and for my sister. They manager at my store was horrible, rude and down right lied to my face. I contacted BJs direct and was told it wasn’t on their recall list. If it was to come on that they would be issuing refunds to everyone. They had no idea when that would be… of course not. I have to say that was the worst experience with BJs (locally and with customer service) I have ever gotten from this company.
Tasia
WOW! That stinks. I just updated the post with a message BJs wrote to one of our Facebook members. That’s a bummer there are so many miscommunications from club to club. Others in on our Facebook page have shared their club returned their sanitizers no problem and refunded the money on a gift card.
peter
the manufacture said : stop using it and return it to the place of purchase!! it is on FAQ
Tasia
Yep and some BJs are following this, and some BJs are not. So confusing.
John
great precaution on the sanitizer
Edward D.
The alternative hand sanitizer product shown is AWFUL! Read the reviews on BJs website for the BeSafe brand. My review was the first.
Cheryl
Thanks for this post!!! Yikes!! I was so happy to see hand sanitizer back on the shelves…I’ve got 2 bottles that will be going back!
