This morning, as I was glancing through bjs.com, I noticed the banner shouting at me- Introducing BJs Stocked.
I thought it was going to be something similar to Instacarts one day delivery. However, the BJs stocked are separate.
Now you can order items online at BJs.com and get two-day shipping. However, if you are new to shopping online at BJs.com, it's not the most convenient.
Before your items would arrive anywhere from 3-6 days, this is NOT free shipping.
The one thing that still gets me over BJs.com when I'm shopping online is shipping. As a paying member of BJs ( a $ 25-year membership deal is here), I would like free shipping.
Plus, the items you buy online from BJs are BIG, which means the shipping increases with each item. So at least have a flat rate only, right?!
When I added Wellsley Farms K Cups and BJs Brand Toilet Paper to my cart, I would pay $7.78 in shipping.
The other catch is NOT all the items are included in the BJs stocked program.
For example, the Berkley Jensen Shepherd Hooks have free shipping, which is nice, but the label BJs isn't stocked. Which means you won't get it in two days.
To see all the items included in the BJs stocked program go here.
Very Interesting, right?!
I'm an Amazon Prime member, and I get free shipping, free TV shows, movies, and more, right?
Why, as BJ's members, do we not get free shipping? If BJs.com wants to encourage members to shop online, shipping is a considerable drawback.
If you are a Target Redcard holder, you get free two-day shipping, and it's been this way for a long time.
Prices seem to be the same online as in the club for most items. With Instacart, things are slightly higher than regular pricing.
If I want the BJ's toilet paper for $15.99, I have to pay $5 shipping.
How does that encourage someone not to click on over to Amazon?
As a long-time BJs member, I was excited to see the wholesale club introduce the BJs app and online coupons, Instacart, and apparel items slowly being available online.
This does not excite me until there is free shipping. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
If you are really in a pinch and want to save money, Pick up and Pay is still an option- even though it limits you to only nonperishable items.
This was a significant setback in our Facebook group because you couldn't get the staples many families are picking up like milk, cheese, fruit, etc. This is where Walmart wins for pickup grocery options.

What does everyone think of Walmart? I have been using them for the past year and if you purchase a certain amount you get free shipping. But lately they have been screwing up my order.
Mari
Shelly, does Costco offer free shipping??
Tasia
Costco is similar some items will have shipping included while others do not. We have a Costco blog as well where we share deals http://www.mywholesalelife.com we would love for you to follow us there too. 🙂
Mari
Until you have free shipping, I am not buying from BJs anymore.
You’re missing out on a whole lot of selling from from us.
Tasia
I agree, but want to point out, this isn’t the official BJs website. They do have free shipping on select items just not all.
Amber
BJs has missed out greatly during the pandemic. I haven’t ordered from them since March, because they charge for shipping. Meanwhile, I’ve spent thousands at Costco, Walmart, and Amazon over the past 5 months. I joined Amazon Prime, which I always thought I didn’t really need, and even though Costco requires a $75 purchase for grocery delivery, it’s simple enough to wait until you need that amount of items (though it’d be handier if they counted your entire purchase, not just groceries, to qualify). I hate Amazon’s politics and monopolization of the market, but I can’t not admit they know what to do and how to do it. It’s just humorous to me that Jeff Bezos is seen as some kind of cool rebel genius of the people when he’s obviously King Capitalist of the world! Personally I have no problem with that, I just take issue with those who’d criticize others who benefit from the same system while lauding him. I think BJs is better for local communities, and I do miss our favorite service desk manager at our store. I wish the company she works for were making smarter choices during this time, which really is just speeding up the way things were already headed (super fast non-human-interaction home deliveries of all items). Thanks for your post. I hope BJs reads it and truly takes notice of what their customers and potential future customers want.
Shelly
Agree. Once me and my family membership expires at the end of this year I’m going to get a Costco membership.

I placed an order on the BJ’s app and was surprised to find out that half of my items were out of stock in-club so I picked shipping for those items. I was surprised to find out there was a shipping charge. These are items normally in stock and I was in-club anyway to pick up the other items.
Tasia
Yep many items on the bjs site have a shipping charge. If it doesn’t say free shipping there will be a charge.
Juli
Absolutely agree
Have my cart full online but the shipping costs ruins it
Going back to amazon
Sorry bjs
Diana
I too agree .. BJ’s needs to make available Free Shipping for its Members .. I am an Amazon Prime Member .. & I continue to stay an Amazon Member because of the Free Shipping .. when you’re paying a Yearly Membership Fee I think that’s the least they can do for their members!
Denise
The Amazon prime fee is at least double the bjs membership fee. I only paid $25 for my bjs membership so thats more than 4 times higher. Even if you paid the full $55 it’s still way less. You cant compare the two. You’re literally paying for shipping with your Amazon prime membership. I am also a prime member but I try to buy elsewhere as much as possible.
Tasia
True, but with Amazon prime membership you have more options than only buying things in club. Streaming TV shows, music, and the list goes on.
Donna
True. Huge price difference. Amazon makes you think that you are getting free shipping, but it’s covered in the price of the service already.
Lw4
That’s not true at all. Most people pay off their prime membership cost every month, with just 1-2 purchases. The average consumer buys well more than 4x their yearly membership cost within just a few months into the year. Even just a dozen items from BJ’s is $18 in shipping – that’s significantly more than a prime membership. Nevermind the fact that prime actually offers same day, next day and 2 day shipping for the large majority products. Plus, all your other prime benefits and access to thousands of brands. It’s impossible to genuinely suggest that you don’t get more than your money’s worth with a prime membership, when you actually break it down and look at the costs.
Terrence
Agree fully. I had in my BJs cart items priced over $700 and the shipoing cost was $92…ovee 12% more. Plus theee are some items at Bjs peanut butter for example that if you select ship it the price is higher than if you select free pickup..and on top of the higher price is a shipping charge. This is criminal
Beverley
I agree with you completely. I would not mind a minimum purchase like Target or Walmart does, but shipping should be free. And being that we are paying an annual membership like Amazon, the tight thing to do would be free shipping without a minimum purchase. I would rather even that shipping takes longer than have to pay for it. My shipping charges for the 12 items in my cart right now are $18.00 and I am thinking not to hit that purchase button. And, to add insult to injury, some of their goods cost more online than in the store. Crazy!
Margaret
Just purchased an online membership, however, no shipping. I will not be using either bc Amazon has free prime shipping and you can find the same things.
HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED
Dee
I recently joinEd BJ’s because my local Sams club closed. I am very disappointed with how the store is operated especially having to use coupons to get a deal. If someone pays to be a member they should automatically get the discounted price. They could offer everyone the discount price if they stop spending money on printing and mail. I looked at this blog to find out if BJ’s offers delivery. I refuse to pay for shipping if I can get an item delivered from prime for free. I don’t think that I will renew my membership next year.
Tasia
Thanks for stopping by Dee. Yes the shipping is a pain. They will run promotions but right now BJs coupons are all clipless. Meaning the book you get, those are instant savings now like Costco. It is because of the Covid-19 outbreak but it may stick around. Who knows.
Pixie judy
I have an Elite membership with Bj’s. $110.00 for the year. I feel that paying that much for membership should exclude any shipping fees..
Tasia
I agree.
Ben
I kept adding things to my cart until the shipping dropped from like $48 down to a flat $5 which was when I got to $150. It included 8 cases of gatorade so $5 is reasonable. Not sure if this is always the case but I agree charging this much for shipping is just crazy
Paulette
Should have free shipping like Sams or least after a certain amount. Some things I would order but won’t. Never have paid shipping on any of my orders from elsewhere.

Hello all, I came across this post when I was looking for answers online as to why BJ’s suddenly was charging over $14 to ship my $140 plus order this January 2020. I ended up emailing their customer care department and they did respond to me in less than 24 hours. My concern was that having purchased the online membership last fall 2019, all of the orders I placed online were shipped free. All of these orders were over $100 . Once I reached the $100 mark on my cart, the shipping fee had disappeared, which is why I was assuming the minimum purchase was $100 for free shipping. The explanation that customer service gave me was that in the fall 2019 BJ’s online was offering a free shipping promotion. So as of January 2020, BJ’s online orders will be charged shipping, regardless of the amount purchased, unless you purchase an item that is marked specifically “free shipping”. I responded to the email that it is almost unheard of that online large retailers charge shipping today. I shop for about 75% or more of my family’s household needs online and use Amazon Prime, Jet.com. Boxed.com, Walmart.com. Target, and Staples (surprisingly Staples is an competitor as they offer frequent online codes for $25 off orders sometimes of $60 , $75, $100, throughout the year which can easily save you even more money on household goods if you have the time do the math – and they do free shipping along with 1 or 2 day shipping included). My point in asking BJ’s customer service to share my concern with online sales upper management is that I cannot see how they can compete online with these others top online competitors if this is their shipping policy . If the shipping cost ends up tipping the scales, the consumer will definitely zip over to Amazon or Target in a heartbeat. I did finding BJ’s online coupons and the selection better than Costco online. Costco online has a $75 minimum order for free shipping, but I do find their online selections to be lacking. I also found that it was a nice savings to purchase just the BJ’s online access membership for $10 for 12 months. This $10 membership gives you access to all of the online coupons offered on their site as well, which depending on what you are buying, may end up saving you enough to justify the shipping.costs. I don’t know if the $10 membership is something most people know is even offered. So if you couple that savings with heavily using their coupons, it may balance things with regards to their shipping charges- but again, you have to work to do the math. With all of the other online options today with fast free shipping , most consumers may not want to bother. Hope this helps anyone else coming across your blog post looking for answers as to why BJ’s is the only large online retailer not offering free shipping over a certain dollar amount !
Tasia
Thank you so much for your feedback. I agree in today’s online market, free shipping is a given. We are being trained if it doesn’t ship free we buy it from somewhere else.
Dan
I just ordered a Ring Doorbell that listed as free shipping and also had the BJ’s Stocked banner. I assumed this was free two day shipping. I, too, am an Amazon Prime member and thought BJ’s was competing. Needed it before Christmas less than a week away and local club was out. Maybe I should have checked closer. BJ’s sent the item from a warehouse over a 1000 miles away via standard UPS Ground. Item is currently in transit and scheduled to be delivered in seven days. Won’t make it in time. Zipped over to Amazon to purchase for the same sale price PLUS Amazon only charged tax on sale amount. BJ’s charged tax on the non-discounted amount. Really left a bad taste in my mouth
Tasia
Yes many of use have complained about the shipping with BJs. It isn’t up to par like Amazon that is for sure. I would try to reach out to BJs on Twitter and share your complaint. I know it’s crazy but I had a horrible experience ordering a dining room set and Twitter was the one way to get in touch with them.
Linda
I was handed a flyer last June about free shipping. I put an order in 4 days ago and still nothing here yet. They did charge my credit card and charged me for shipping v. Outrageous. I wish I saw this before. I was handed false advertisement.
Cheryl
Like you, I won’t use this until free shipping. I’ve been an Amazon Prime member since it started—BJ’s will never catch up to them, Walmart and Target! Not impressed with ordering online for in-club pickup. We did it once for a generator-one item and it took 8 hours before it was ready for “pick up!” One and done on that!! I do agree that Walmart grocery pick up is very good, without a price mark up!
Matilda
I like shopping at my bjs but I agree they are very behind the times. Sam’s club had had the pick up and pay options for a long time and it was eligible on produce and dairy too. They also launched the scan and go way before bjs. I love that option sadly my bjs still doesn’t have this option. When shopping with 3 kids and the endless options I currently have with other retailers bjs need to hurry up.
Tasia
Yes and Sam’s has free shipping for most online items as well. I feel like like if they are going to make this big annoucement, it should be something a little more competitive ya know?!
