The SavingStar Healthy Offer of the week is, Save 20% on any single purchase of loose Avocados. (expires 5/11)
Avocados are in season, and they are packed with nutrients. The mighty avocado is high in potassium (more potassium than a banana), fiber, and essential fatty acids. Let's face it, they just taste great.
How do you pick the perfect avocado?
If you are eating them right away, look for avocados that will give a little bit (near the stem) with a gentle squeeze. If you plan on using them later in the week for a recipe, purchase firm avocados. Leave them at room temperature to ripen. You can also put them in a paper bag to speed up the ripening process. A healthy avocado will have dark green skin, and no mushy spots, or dents.
How to store your avocado
Any cut and unused avocado should wrapped in plastic tightly, and stored in the refrigerator to stop the ripening process.
