This morning, in our Facebook group, someone shared the new charge for pickup orders under $50.
I personally don't do many pickup orders, and when I do, they are over the $50 mark. I also have the Club+ membership, which allows me to have no-fee pickups now.
This person wasn't happy with it, and a few others chimed in about how they had a small order, saw the fee, and canceled it altogether.
I get that we pay a membership, and you can do Walmart pickup for over $35 for free, but it seems pretty easy to reach the $50 threshold at BJ's.
The positive aspect is that it can help you plan better and maybe give once a month shopping a go to save money. When BJ's has promotions like they do now, like the spend $150 get a Free Turkey, this can help you plan your trip and take advantage of higher-spend promotions.
A $3.99 fee doesn't seem too bad for spending over $50. I'm also an older millennial, and when I had my kids and was extreme couponing, we didn't have a pickup option. You just had to make do.
BJ's members with Club+ Card or Mastercard will always have free pickup orders. This is exactly like Sam's Club policy.
And if a $3.99 fee for a $50 order is really upsetting, then a pickup order at BJ's isn't for you.
I will mention that Sam's Club does the same thing. They have a $4 fee on orders under $50.
And Costco still doesn't even do pickup orders.
Just a little update and something to think about. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below or chime in on Instagram and TikTok.

I don’t understand the fee. Just now on BJ.com. if I make an online purchase of an item for delivery, there is no fee but if I go on BJ.com to make the purchase of an item well over $50 for me to pick up the item in a Club myself they add the $3.99. For what? BJs is providing no service if I pick up the item myself.

When you say for delivery are you talking about same day delivery? Which would be through a third party? The $50 has to be spent before taxes and then there isn’t a charge. Im still waiting for an official press release about this new charge..

Yes. Especially when they did not have product on shelf, and I thought I will order and pickup next day instead of bugging someone since it was showing in stock at the location. But the moment I tried ordering, I saw pickup fee which for a $12 item was obnoxious. I decided to not buy the item and saved me some money on the positive side.

As a person on a fixed income the free pickup on $50+ is a huge bonus. I am about 40 minutes one way from BJs so a once a month run is all I do. So a fee on $50+ and my gas and time would not appeal at all. I can see a fee for under $50 as several people must shop/deliver to the car on an order that doesn’t generate much income at all.

I love being able to pick up my order! I belong to Costco too, but they don’t offer pick up, and their hours are shorter, which is a plus for BJs with longer hours and pickup! ! I’m too busy sometimes to spend an hour in store, so this service saves me time and ensures I can still get the items I love from BJ’s! My orders are always over $100, but I would gladly pay $4 just to save myself the hassle of walking the aisles and standing in line! I can see people complaining if it was a huge fee, but for the convenience, it is so worth it!

There should be no fee for pick up orders no matter how small or large the order is. That was the perk of paying for a basic membership fee. It’s easy for shoppers that always spend over $50 to say it’s not a big deal, but for others who only shop for certain items or are on a budget, it can or will be a deal breaker. Also, not receiving an official notice about it doesn’t seem right. That’s the least BJs could have done instead of the customer being blind sided by it or having to google it to make sure what they’re seeing is legitimate.

I do agree, it’s odd that there was no announcement about it.
