Aldi or BJ's Wholesale club? Which one has cheaper produce? When I started really couponing , I'm talking about couponing where I only spent $30 a week on food I always found Aldi's produce prices to be cheaper.
Let's Look today at the produce prices at BJs Wholesale club compared to Aldi.
My couponing journey started in 2012 when I had a 1 and 3 year old. We were too deep in debt and our salaries were barely making ends meet.
I constantly watched the sales flyers for groceries to compare what store had the best deal. When I started my first blog I did so many comparisons and pricebooks.
My life was feeding babies, cleaning, and deal hunting.
Since acquiring the BJs blog 4 years ago now I've shifted my shopping to wholesale. I primarily shop BJ's and Tops.
I find I don't enjoy shopping at Aldi as much as I did in college. I recently took a stroll in Aldi and thought it would be a good time to do a recent price comparison.
Should we be buying our produce at Aldi over BJs?! Let's find out.
Things to Keep in Mind
BJ's Wholesale Club is a wholesale club. You have to PAY to shop there. You can easily get a $25/year membership or take advantage of a FREE three month trial membership.
Most items you will find in a larger size. Today I see more bulk items hitting the shelves at all grocery retailers.
This article is only comparing produce.

Were you surprised by the overall winner being Aldi? Keep in mind produce prices will change as items are in season. During the spring/summer/fall months you will find great prices on produce. In the past I have always found Aldi to be a better deal on produce items.
Always check your produce carefully before purchasing.
Let us know in the comments if you will stop getting produce at BJs?
Or have you always gotten your produce at Aldi?

Now that I am retired and no longer work stupid hours I am starting to do price comparison with 3 stores that I frequent.
It’s a shame how these stores play games. Especially with coupons. BJ’s at one time use to let you use THEIR expired coupons if it were a few days over. But I was told they no longer allowed that. Seriously?? I never leave that store without spending $200 -$300 plus at every visit. So now instead of getting everything I need at 1 store I will do my homework and make sure I get the best deal I can.

I hear ya! It isn’t always the most convenient to shop at multiple stores but the savings can really add up and keep us motivated to be conscious shoppers.

Aldi prices are over all better

I am very selective with the produce I get from Aldi as much as I love shopping there, they sometimes let their produce sit on the shelf too long. I do typically buy organic spinach there, which is amazing and never wilted thankfully! I did not know some of their produce came from Mexico, which ones do? I can’t wait for local farmers markets to be open here also (southern NH)

The produce is what started me shopping at Aldi. Then I started to try other things. I save so much money shopping there! We are getting a Sprouts Farmers Market soon so I am excited to see what they have to offer in the produce department.
Debbie Fox
I shop Aldi for bananas, strawberries, grapes ? when in sale, lettuce, onions and tangerine. I’ve purchased pineapples from Aldi’s and had to return as they never ripened. At Aldi fresh items are refunded and a replacement too.

Yes! I do the same. Aldi’s for fruit and veggies. Our BJ’s produce does not look the freshest and I know I would waste that large quantity.

I rarely buy produce or fruit at BJs and I never shop at Aldis (even though there is one about 3 miles from my house. the last few times I bought produce at BJs it wasn’t great, the potato bag had several rotten potatoes. I am lucky because living in Southwest Florida I can normally find local produce at farmers market, flea markets or at stands on the side of the road way cheaper, fresher and just ultimately taste better.
Tasia
Totally agree Farmer’s market is the way to go during the summer months here
Joann
Love Aldis fruit and veggies. Also, cheese and hummus. And seasonal items.

I shopped my Aldi yesterday and found raspberries, blackberries and Baby Bella mushrooms all marked down to 99 cents each. What a deal! Whenever they need to move the merchandise, the managers are able to mark down items. I discovered this when I asked the manager one day, why she was marking the breads and rolls down to 25 cents per package. She said the truck came in a she had a store room filled with fresh breads and what was on the shelf had to go to make room! Another reason to shop Aldi regularly.

Thanks for this and for pointing out “From Mexico!” If I can avoid produce from there, I do. With summer coming hopefully more locally sourced produce available !

I prefer produce from Aldi’s anyways. The past few time I got produce from BJ’s the price was ok but the quality was terrible. So it’s either Aldi’s or a local produce outlet for me. And it’s rare I find bananas at BJ’s even close to ripe and when the do ripen the peel is still green with brown spots and they tasted terrible too.
